Earlier people use to go to a shop and purchase a light bulb either to 60 watts or 90 watts. However, in today’s time so much of new bulbs are introduced in market that you need to make a wise decision while selecting the right kind of bulb for your requirement.
Generally people choose to have a compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) for their home as these bulbs are highly energy efficient and have also got an energy star rating. These bulbs consume 1/4th of electricity consumed by a normal bulb to produce the same amount of light. These bulbs are also very durable and reduce the heat production by 70%. Due to this reduction in heat production, energy cost of air conditioner is also reduced.
The technology associated with these bulbs has reached so high that they are comparable to standard bulbs in most roles and have become the best alternative for the general public. These bulbs are available in warm as well as cool color options and various sizes and shapes to fit most fixtures. They also come in models rated to work indoors or outdoors, with dimmer and tri-way switches.

Wiring a ceiling fan is not so difficult and is mostly like wiring a light fixture. While wiring a ceiling fan, make sure that all the wire connections are made securely and with the proper size of wire nuts. The nuts should not be loose and no copper strands should be left uncovered.
In general you will find 4 wires for attaching your ceiling fan. These wires have different colors (black, white, green and red/blue or black/white striped) and each of this color have its own significance.
Black wire of ceiling fan is used to connect the hot terminal of the fan and for connecting hot terminal of light kit, red/blue/striped is used. For connecting the neutral terminal of the ceiling fan white wire is used. In the end, for whole setup green wire can be used to make ground connection.
Now start connecting the wires of fan to the home wiring. Start with the neutral wire connection. The neutral wire of fan that is white in color is required to be connected with the neutral wire of house (white color). Also check if the white wire of your ceiling fan has a colored tape over it then that may signify that this wire should not be used as neural wire.

Dimmer switches help in creating a good environment in dinning room or home theater as per your choice. They are not so difficult to install. Once you decide to buy these dimmer switches for your home, have good knowledge about them.
First fact about dimmer switches is that they can operate 120V incandescent bulbs and halogen bulbs but can not operate fluorescent bulbs and most compact fluorescent bulbs.
Dimmer switches can generally operate those bulbs that have wire filaments. This is present in 120V incandescent and halogen bulbs, therefore they can be operated using dimmer switches. On contrary, fluorescent bulbs and compact fluorescent bulbs have certain gas that needs some voltage for its operation. In case the halogen bulb have very less voltage then different dimmer switches are required.
Generally, there are single pole and 3-way dimmer switches. Choose the appropriate one for your application. If you want the light to be turned on via a single switch then you need a single pole dimmer switch and if you want it to be turned on by two switches then you need a 3-way dimmer switch. Note that in a 3-way lighting application only one of the switches can be a dimmer switch.

An energy-efficient electrical setup is a combined outcome of efficiency of all the electric segments and fixtures. Hence, ensuring an energy-efficient electrical setting calls for an equal contribution from all the constituting devices and equipments.
Most often, the heating and cooling devices of your home end up consuming a major share of the monthly power consumption. The homeowners feel helpless against such a scenario as the use of such devices becomes a necessity for them. Though you cannot stop using such equipments (air-conditioners, electric fireplaces, heaters, coolers etc) but you can work towards their higher efficiency.
Check whether the electrical fixtures of your rooms are well insulated or not. Generally, the improper insulation of electric outlets and switches result in drifts around them. These drifts lower the efficiency of the air-conditioners, heaters, coolers, fireplaces etc. to a large extent. Hence, proper insulation of the outlets and switches would make such equipments more efficient and would cut down on your electric bills.
In order to insulate such electrical outlets and switches, switch off the breaker switch from the main electrical breaker box. You can detach the main electric fuse to cut off electricity as well.

The basic know-how of your electrical wiring is one thing that deserves a mandatory look in. A homeowner who is well equipped with the facts and generalizations of his home wiring schema, can prevent the occurrence of deadly electrical hazards.
During the remodeling or construction of the home, the internal wiring setup must be looked in closely to gather some general idea about it’s working. You can also derive some valuable suggestions and manipulations from the electrician under work.
The basic color coding that works for most of the households incorporates the lighter colors for the neutral wires and the dark colors for the phase (hot) wires. On the other hand, the ground or earth wire is given the custom color of either green or yellow. While the active lead uses a red-colored or a black-colored insulation, the neutral wire employs a white or a gray color. In case of 3-phase wiring setup, phase one commonly uses a black color, phase two uses a red color and phase 3 uses a blue color.
Take the other generalizations in account as well after apprehending the color coding.

Electricity in a home is a basic requirement, so is it’s maintenance. For this purpose we need a electrician. Now for our safeguard we should call a electrician who has good knowledge in the field. The selection of electrician should be done very cautiously.
The biggest thing to be taken care of is to gauge a wire. If the electrician will use a thin wire gauge at a place where thick one is required, it may cause overheating of wire or short circuit in the connection which could further result in a fire.
Electric switches often gets loose by continuous use and starts sparking. Periodic checks and maintenance of it is very important to avoid all the inept consequences.
Cable fitting in home should be done after analyzing the wire perfectly. Fresh wire should be preferred which is free from any wear or tear. Cable should be covered by a external shield.
The master point for all wires from where all the defects are checked, and this region is very sensitive so extra care is required for protecting it. Total load that this point can handle is limited and depend on some criteria. So electricians should take care not to go beyond that limit to avoid its adverse effects.
